Laura Cortizo is the driving force behind Cortizo Construction, a Miami-based general contractor devoted to the art of construction through the lens of hospitality.
Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Laura’s connection to construction began early in life. She grew up watching her family build homes and create beautifully crafted furniture through woodworking, experiences that quietly shaped her understanding of making, care, and intention.
At twelve, Laura and her family migrated to Spain. Her world expanded through diverse landscapes, historic cities, and architectural traditions. Those years deepened her curiosity and appreciation for the built environment, planting a lasting passion for the art of building.
Nearly a decade rooted in Miami, a city crucial to her personal and professional growth, Laura’s relationship with construction has become more than a profession. It is a deep connection to people, to process, and to the quiet devotion of showing up day after day. She holds profound admiration for the men and women in construction, for their commitment, resilience, and capacity to build through presence, repetition, and care.
For Laura, construction is inseparable from the human experience. It is about hands, time, discipline, and trust. Every project represents respect for the people who build it and the lives that will inhabit it.
At the core of Laura’s perspective is the belief that construction is not only about structures, but about experiences and people. Spaces carry emotion, memory, and intention. Building them thoughtfully is both a craft and a form of care.
This path is shaped by lineage, movement, and meaning.

Lead Construction Technician
Born in Santiago de Cuba, Yusmel’s journey has always been shaped by discipline, curiosity, and a relentless drive to master his craft. At 17, he moved to La Habana to study accounting, originally imagining a career related to sports, but life led him toward something that would become a true calling.
While studying, he worked and learned welding from his cousin, quickly discovering both talent and passion for it. What began as a necessity evolved into a profession: he built his own welding business in La Habana, creating everything from iron fences to custom doors and structural metalwork. For 19 years, welding became his world, a trade that refined his precision, patience, and meticulous eye for detail.
He later spent two years in Mexico while his business continued to operate in Cuba, broadening his perspective and experience. In 2015, he moved to Miami and transitioned into electrical work, starting alongside a friend. True to his nature, he didn’t settle for just on-the-job experience; he studied at night, eventually earning his electrician’s credentials. Over the years, he learned additional trades simply by observing, analyzing, and trying things himself. That curiosity is still one of his defining traits.
In the field, Yusmel is known for his immaculate work environment.
He cleans the jobsite every day, not out of obligation, but because he believes excellence requires order. His standards are exceptionally high, his attention to detail is unmatched, and his ability to execute across multiple trades makes him one of the most reliable and multi-talented members of the Cortizo Construction team. Above all, Yusmel is driven by learning. He is constantly studying, improving, and elevating his craft, and that dedication is felt in every project he touches.

Art Director
Mariano is an Argentine graphic designer and 3D generalist and based in Buenos Aires, with a degree in Graphic Design from the University of Buenos Aires.
He works primarily in advertising, developing high-quality visual content and contributing across the full 3D pipeline. Mariano has collaborated with studios all around the world such as MediaMonks, 21-19, Wildthings, and BandidoGuapo, among others, working on campaigns for global brands like Amazon, Uber, and WhatsApp.
Beyond technical execution and visuals, communication is a central area of interest in his practice. He values not only visual communication, but also clear, thoughtful dialogue with clients, believing that strong collaboration is built through good conversation as much as good design. Illustration is another discipline he is deeply engaged with, dedicating time and ongoing effort to develop it as a parallel creative practice and expand his expressive range.

Language Developer
Natalie Rodriguez, aka Gaiya, is a Miami-born multidisciplinary artist and director whose work bridges art, rhythm, and human-centered design.
With a background rooted in dance, choreography, and music, her creative lens has always been guided by an acute sensitivity to space, timing, and process, often described by collaborators as the ability to “hear color” or “find the rhythm within a space.”
As the language developer at Cortizo Construction, Gaiya brings an unorthodox yet intentional perspective to the building process. Her role centers on etching the company’s aesthetic direction and narrative language, revealing construction not only as a technical discipline, but as a deeply human and rhythmic practice.
She explores the layers of construction that are less often spoken about, where coordination becomes choreography, materials carry meaning, and process reflects care.

We honor our word our timelines, and the trust our clients place in us.
